During
the year, the Foundation resolved to use funds for institutional
purposes in the amount of 2 billion 237 million lire. Of these,
147 million were allocated to the Fund for Volunteer Work.
A
total of about forty projects were financed, its own
and those of others, particularly in the sphere of the arts and
culture, without losing sight, however, of other sectors such as
welfare, charity and safeguarding the weaker social categories.
It
is particularly interesting to note that, in the autumn of 1999,
thanks to contributions made over a period of several years by the
Foundation, three new museums were inaugurated: the Glauco Lombardi
Museum, the Amedeo Bocchi Museum and the Fidenza Cathedral Museum. The
total contributions allocated to their initiatives amounted to about
2.5 billion, 600 million and 650 million lire, respectively.
The
Glauco Lombardi Museum was inaugurated on October 17, 1999, before
Minister Antonio Maccanico, numerous other authorities and a large
audience. The intervention of the Foundation made it possible to
return this prestigious center of culture to the city. With its
precious collection of works of art and souvenirs of the era of
Napoleon and Maria Luigia, it is known and admired even beyond the
borders of our country.
As
of September 25, 1999, date of its inauguration, Parma has the Amedeo
Bocchi Museum, organized by the Foundation, thanks to the donation
of Rina Cabassi and Emilia Bocchi, in the ancient halls of Palazzo
Sanvitale made available by the Monte Parma Bank. Amedeo Bocchi,
a famous son of Parma, was one of the most important Italian painters
in the 20th century and a museum devoted to his work has been unanimously
acclaimed as an event of great cultural significance.
Thanks
to a delicate operation of scientific restoration of the Matroneum
in the north wing, one of the fundamental architectural structures
of the Cathedral of Fidenza was saved. It is a monumental work by
Antelami, of enormous historical value, on the itinerary of the
via Francigena and the symbol of Fidenza. In this ideal location
the Cathedral Museum finds a location worthy of the precious collection
that can now be admired by visitors.
